Synopsis: This document explains the default anti spam filtering rules that are installed by the MailSite Install Wizard. Anti Spam Rules will only work if Spam Scanning is enabled through the Spam Engine window, which requires a MailSite Anti Spam subscription http://www.rockliffe.com/products/as/.
More Information: Default Anti Spam Rules
There are five anti spam rules that are installed by the MailSite Install Wizard.
Server Receive Script Rules
This Rule can be found in the Server > Filtering > Sieve Filter > Server Receive Script window in the MailSite Console. The Rule rejects all messages with a spam score that is greater than or equal to 9 unless the sender is whitelisted. The messages will be returned to the sender with a Non Delivery Report stating that "This message has been scored as spam with a probability of more than 90%"
- "Add Spam Score X-Header"
This Rule can be found in the Server > Filtering > Sieve Filter > Server Receive Script window in the MailSite Console. The Rule adds a Spam Score X-Header containing the spam score to all messages unless the sender is whitelisted.
- "Add Spam Score to Subject"
This Rule can be found in the Server > Filtering > Sieve Filter > Server Receive Script window in the MailSite Console. The Rule inserts the spam score into the beginning of the message subject line unless the sender is whitelisted. The Rule can be set to be triggered by a specific spam score - the default setting is greater than or equal to 5. This Rule serves two purposes: it increases the visibility of the spam score; and it enables end users to manipulate messages based on the spam score using client-side filtering Rules in POP email clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Netscape Messenger.
Forced Mailbox Delivery Script Rules
Discards mail from a sender if their address is blacklisted at the server, domain or mailbox level. The Rule can be found in the Server > Filtering > Sieve Filter > Forced Mailbox Delivery Script window.
Mailbox Delivery Script Rules
This Rule quarantines messages that are suspected to be spam. The Rule can be found in the Server > Filtering > Sieve Filter > Mailbox Delivery Script window in the MailSite Console, and files all suspected spam messages into end users "Junk Mail" IMAP folders. The default setting for a suspected spam message is "messages with a spam score that is greater than or equal to 8".
Also has "Add Spam Score X-Header" and "Add Spam Score to Subject" rules with same setup as described above but implemented at Mailbox level.
